Junior Golf Programs
Junior golf is a priority at the Island Brae Golf Club. Whether the player is just starting out in the game, or is interested in becoming an accomplished competitor, there are programs available at the Club.
Junior Golf - Beginner & Non-Competitive
For youth looking to start playing golf, the Island Brae Golf Club offers a junior program that shows beginners the basic skills for golf, and helps those who are still new to the game develop their skills further. This is a great program for parents to help get their children introduced to the game.
Every Wednesday throughout the summer, the club hosts a junior day. This day is open to all juniors who wish to participate - you do not have to be member to participate. The day starts off at 11:00am with a 30-40 minute session with the professional staff. The set-up, swing mechanics, and short game are all covered. In addition, the juniors are introduced to the rules and etiquette as well as what is expected of them in terms of on-course behaviour. After the session, they are given a snack and organized into groups for 9 holes. The cost is only $10 per junior.
Junior Golf - Competitive
New for 2016 is a competitive program for junior golfers who want to take their game to the next level. Juniors will enjoy playing privileges at both the Island Brae and Pembroke Golf Clubs.
As part of this competitive program, juniors will participate in the Ottawa Valley Golf Association's (OVGA) Intersectional Team competitions, which involves interclub matches with other local clubs. Typically, the schedule includes a home and home compeition with at least two or three other clubs. With a victory in the sectional portion comes the opportunity to advance to the regional level, and ultimately to the OVGA championship.
Competitive juniors also vie to be on the Blakely Cup team which represents the Brae's sister club -- Pembroke -- in an annual compeition among other Valley golf clubs. Some juniors also compete throughout the Ottawa Valley at club events, OVGA sanctioned tournaments or in provincial and national events.
